We chose to offer something even more premium than usual, almost luxurious: the highest grade of leaves Ba Ka Noy can offer, the biggest trees available in their gardens.

We didn't know what to expect from this tea, and the result was not disappointing. While the tea we sourced in autum from this village was sweet and gentle, this one displays a much stronger bitterness, similar to what you could find in Lao Man E. Overall, the higher price tag than Lao Man E gushu is justified by a higher overall intensity, this tea will make you sweat.

The tea had a soft rolling, which means it starts easy on you, the bitterness increases gradually over the session, and the leaves keep delivering a juicy soup. You need to dedicate at least an hour to fully experience this tea.

The fragrance is nothing special, it's a tea for the mouth, throat and body. You'll notice the heavy upfront sweetness. The Huigan builds up over the session, while the tea remains at a low astringency until the end.

It is an interesting halfway between Lao Man E and Lao Banzhang, both geographically and in the cup.

Ba Ka Noy village

Ba Ka Noy is located in the South of Menghai. The area seems to have a soil well-suited for puerh tea cultivation. It is populated with many famous tea mountains, from Hekai in the North, to Lao Man E in the South, and at the core of it, the village of Lao Banzhang. All the teas there are powerful, but they feature noticeable variations.

Ba Ka Noy is a small Lahu village located in the South-West, in its ancient tea gardens lay a good amount of massive trees, which produce a particularly sweet tea with a cooling aftertaste.
